It’s a huge question and a huge decision as most of our clients have been living in their homes for over 30 years. Do you try and time it so that the sale of your house and the date you move into the Senior Living facility are the same or do you move first and then worry about selling your house after? We’ve helped clients in both situations, selling before they move and after. We’ve found that as long as you don’t have the financial need or time restraints it can be much less stressful to sell your home after moving into the Senior Living facility. Trying to sell your home before moving can add an extra layer of complexity where you’re not only trying to prep for the sale of a home you’ve lived in for most of your life and created memories in but you’re also preparing for a huge life transition. So if there’s no rush we always recommend to our clients to wait till after they move to sell their homes.

Selling after you move also allows you some flexibility. The table you left behind you might decide you now want and by not selling your home right away you have the flexibility to change your mind on some things. After settling into your new place you have the option of going back to the old place and grabbing or swapping those items you were unsure with. Really though there is no right or wrong answer.
